Session 37
The battle with the infant demon lord continued, though it wasn't long until Falst experienced a power spurt, growing spinier, more maleficent, and certainly more toxic. Undeniably, if all stayed in the same room as him, they'd certainly die given enough time. Izaki managed a blow against himself, which left a nasty scar, and then one against the demon. He learned the hard way that biting a demon covered in quills ended with a pierced mouth and life drain. Falst retaliated with an onslaught of radiation, unholy blighting, darkspeech and finally an assault against Rend that left even the hulking monster down and out.
Sev, having heard the insistent voice of Dante in the back of his mind begging him to use the ring, put it on and twisted. The magic item leaped off his hand and grew into a portal to hell, from which Dante rose bedecked in new armor and with a wicked-looking sword. He stabbed the demon through the black heart and began to drag him into the pits.
Finduilas's holy power blew off the ceiling of the dark tower and rained pure, unabashed sunlight into the space, banishing Falst's jaundice light and blowing the demon to the portal's edge. Tasha cut off one hand, and Serren's fiendish croc finished the job, dragging the demon into Torment. The portal quickly closed back up.
There was little time to celebrate, as the tower began to crack and crumble around them. Everyone managed to escape, though Rend most uncomfortably of all after being kicked off the side of the 1000 foot drop.
Tasha and Finduilas pulled Izaki toward the totem, intent on passing back to the Northland and fulfilling the promise they'd made to Ilari and Northstar. Sev and Serren searched the rubble, the druid finding one of Kasper's swords.
Dante proclaimed himself king, and the new emissary of hell in the Minister's absence, which the archdruid of the West backed. In light of the power vacuums caused by Kasper, House Huma and Falst's defeats, it seemed together Dante and Archdruid Calalas would return some order to Saspien.
Serren began teleporting himself inside of bags with the aid of celestial creatures, first to Yesenya's lair (only to find it empty), then to Daithrak's lair (to similarly find it vacated, but for her son who requested Tisiphone before Serren would be paid. He begrudgingly agreed.) And finally back to town in time for the celebration...
The group eventually reunited in Lastlight, where Sev decided a feast would be the perfect way in which to let the frightened people know there were going to be changes. Within an hour or so, he'd dug fire pits, set up poles and decoration, and gathered food and drink (and paying double plus tip).
It took some time, but eventually a town festival the likes of which Lastlight hadn't seen for generations was under way. Music, dancing, laughing, the gloom of the town seemed to lift...
Considering the people's unfamiliarity with festivities, some weren't quite up to the it, namely an abusive youth, which Sirocco dealt with archer style. This drew attention of the rest of the group and revealed that not everyone was pleased the land's saviors had been "more monsters". Good thing he didn't see Rend.
The party died down afterward, as onlookers decided enough for one night. For others the booze and food brought on an undeniable need to sleep. Sev, Izaki and Finduilas were out like lights.
But booze, wrong words and hot blood can also bring conflict, and Alisaadi and Serren quickly ended up poised for a fight outside of town. Rend and Sirocco followed after, hoping to diffuse the situation, but ended up getting embroiled in it. By the wee hours of the morning, Serren was hiding within the mist, after having summoned a massive spider, whilst Rend sniffed for the mage with sword in hand and Tasha stood angrily with her dragon husband behind her. Sirocco had his bow trained, waiting to impale some feet.
Eventually the late hour and the sheer frustration of the conflict reached their heads and Ternasin bore Alisaadi off. Rend promised to kill Serren the next chance he got and wandered away.
That next morning, Sev, Finduilas and Izaki, unable to find the rest of the party, took the liberty of meeting some of the townsfolk and buying horses enough for all but the massive troll, who they figured would snap a horse's spine like a twig. Each picked their favorite, Izaki a black stallion, Fin a gray mare she had a little trouble naming, and Sev choosing the quite misplaced zebra.
